Cadburys World Birmingham

With all that Birmingham City has to offer one of the most popular attractions to visit is Cadbury World. The well-known manufacturers of chocolate have created an enjoyable exhibition and tour. Located in the south west of Birmingham it is a must, not only for chocolate lovers, but for all those interested in the history of this incredible company.

Cadbury’s factory (founded in 1824) had originally been located in the centre of Birmingham but when the business started to expand, a new site was acquired in the south of the city. In 1879 a rural area was chosen. For ease of transportation, they chose near to the canal and railway.

The family named the area  Bournville, after the river The Bourn. In 1893 George Cadbury bought 120 acres of land near the factory and designed a model village for his workers. In 1900 an independent trust was set up, to provide an infra structure of schools, hospitals and public baths. Bournville now has over 7,800 homes and is a desirable area to live with its mix of urban and green areas.

Cadburys World Birmingham was opened in 1990 having been built on the Bournville manufacturing site. Although visitors cannot see the workings of the actual factory there is lots to explore.

Starting from when the cocoa bean was discovered, you can move from the Aztec jungle section to how chocolate arrived in Europe and learn how Cadburys first started. Cadbury World plots through its history up to the modern day with attractions from archive pieces to the ingredients that go into the most famous known edibles.

One of the most popular areas is where traditional skills are demonstrated and visitors can even have a go! It’s only matched in demand by the taster section – and of course there is free chocolate given out!

With a 4D cinema (with motion seats!), a gentle ride called Cadabra, and play area, there’s plenty to keep children entertained. Cadbury’s World Birmingham is a treat for those with a sweet tooth but more importantly, for all ages, looking for a fun day out.
