National SEA LIFE Center Birmingham

National Sea Life Center Birmingham, which features more than 60 marine life and freshwater displays, is located in the Bridnleyplace area of Birmingham, England. It has an ocean tank capacity of 1,000,000 liters of water. Also, it has blacktip reef sharks, huge green sea turtles, plus tropical reef fish, along with a clear 360-degree underwater subway in the U.K.

Norman Foster built the national sea life center. As hinted, it is situated along the mainline of Birmingham canal navigations via an old turn junction facing the Birmingham arena. The center started in July 1996, when it was the single sea life center in the United Kingdom.

It houses more than 2,000 creatures worldwide, thus, describing itself as an area that transports guests to the discovery underwater world. The center, in its other displays, has a huge pacific octopus and lobsters, horseshoe crabs, sharks, greenish sea turtles, and stingrays.

Around 2009, the sea life center pronounced as its latest attraction; the Sensorama Cinema. And 3-D viewing where the audience could be glued to sensations like the salt spray, the wind, and the seaweed smell. What’s more, the sea life center launched in 2014 a £2,000,000 habitat of penguin ice adventure, which became a place for gentoo penguins colony.

This exciting place has been involved or featured in a range of documentaries, such as the BBC’s Penguins in a plane; Shark, and Great animal moves. Particularly, David Attenborough went to the center around 2010 when he filmed the BBC2 first animals series.

Significantly, the center is the west midlands’ very known tourist attraction. It welcomes a multitude of visitors yearly. It has equally received awards and accolades. It received the accolade of Aquarium and Warwickshire Family Attraction of the Year even though it isn’t in the present county of Warwickshire by the 2004 Britain Guide.

With its exhibitions and gardens, events program and education, it’s obvious why it has been popular for years.

Opening Times

The center is opened daily for the general public from 9:30 am, or 9:45 am.

The opening and closing times vary:

Sundays; 9:30 am to 5:00 pm

Monday- Friday; 9:45 am to 4:00 pm

Saturdays; 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Entrance Fees

  1. The Standard Ticket

 The entrance per person is  £18.30. While the ticket on the day is charged at £22.95. The adult and toddler ticket is sold for £14.

  1. The Multi-Attraction Ticket

The sea life plus the legoland center discovery ticket costs £27.50 per person. While the adult and toddler ticket is just £21.

  1. Annual Passes

The ticket for the annual entrance is sold for £89 per individual.

How to Locate the Sea Life Center

You can enter any bus going to Birmingham city and follow the International Convention Centre (ICC) walking signs and Barclaycard arenas. Buses serving and working in the broad street have numbers of 29, 29a, 24, 23, 22, 10, 9, 1, 126.
