Castle Vale is an Estate that is situated between Castle Bromwich, Minworth and Erdington. This housing estate forms part of the Birmingham City Council under Castle Vale ward. Castle Vale is located approximately 9km off the northeastern axis of Birmingham Town’s center.

The present day site of Castle Vale was originally a wooded area, though it had Domesday Manor. The date  in which works started at the site is still unconfirmed. However, in 1160 the Arden family gave Berwood’s Manor to St. Mary’s Abbey. The Church was however brought to ruins in the mid 15th century after it suffered great damages.

In the late 18th century, the Fazeley and Birmingham canal was constructed in the northern axis of the district which led to the emergence of industrial developments. Subsequently, in 1842, railway tracks were constructed which connected Derby Junction and Birmingham.

In 1900, the district witnessed its largest source of employment as John Dunlop started his tyre factory. The factory within a few decades became renowned as the biggest and most respected in the world.

The present site of Castle Vale was used in the 20th century for departure of aeroplanes. Thus, it helped in building the aviation industry of the area. Its airfield at Castle Bromwich Aerodrome was used during the first and second World War, which was quite instrumental.

According to the last census count of the district, it has approximately 10,000 residents. One of the issues that affected Castle Vale was its high crime rates. It was quite high but through the efforts of the estate’s residents and police, the crime rate reduced in 1998.

As regards Education, the district has four primary schools and one secondary school. The district also, in its bid to provide the shopping needs of its residents, established Shopping complexes in the Reed Square and Castle Vale retail Park. It also has plenty of sporting equipment for its residents. The major means of transportation is through road and air.
