Kings Heath is a suburban district of Birmingham, England. It is situated on the southern axis of Birmingham which is approximately four miles from the town ‘s center. It was originally located in Worcestershire and found after Moseley and Alcester road.
Following the development of roads within the Birmingham and Alcester region, the district was gradually recognized as a hamlet in the early 18th century. The development of those roads led to the expansion of the region as modern houses and farmlands sprung up. Prior to the construction of the roads, the district was merely an isolated refuse dump that was controlled by Kings Norton’s Royal Borough.
The roads that went beyond the High streets of the district were terraced in the early 20th century and the houses there are occupied by most of the owners.
Due to the cheap rates of various roads located within the high street, many commercial shops sprung up. This has led to the influx of various businesses such as Boutiques and cafés. The shop owners, desirous of improving the area, established the ‘Business Improvement District ‘. The body was formed for the sole aim of promoting and improving the area ; it collects a portion of local taxes for its running.
The residents of the district have been referring to the area as ‘village’ irrespective of the fact that, over hundred years now, it has been under Birmingham City.
The district has a public square which was developed for the residents. The residents organize events in the area.
As regards Education, the district has plenty of schools, some of which include Kings Heath Primary school, King Edward VI Camp Hill School, Bishop Challoner Catholic College, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls amongst others. The major means of transportation in the district is through roads. Thus, the buses efficiently convey the residents across Birmingham Town.
